"The brilliant 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Alexis Establet (100% Grenache from 100-year-old vines from a parcel situated in the northern end of Chateauneuf du Pape known as La Gardiole) is one of the finest wines this estate has ever made. A saturated ruby/purple color (surprising given the fact that the 100% Grenache was aged primarily in small oak) is followed by fabulous levels of concentration, rich, ripe fruit, good freshness and vibrancy (because of the lack of any excessive heat during the growing season), plenty of pepper, licorice, grilled Provencal herbs, and exceptional levels of red and black fruits. The tannins are silky, the wine is broad and savory, and the finish lasts nearly a minute. Drink this super wine over the next 15-20 years." -Robert Parker
A large estate by Chateauneuf du Pape standards (nearly 140 acres), Grand Tinel produces some of my favorite wines of the appellation as they always possess enormous aromatic appeal as well as flavor texture. Since consultant Philippe Cambie arrived in 2002, the quality has gotten dramatically higher. The estate did not present any 2008s for tasting, but given the brilliance of their 2007s, I’m not complaining.
