Frédéric Magnien is the 5th generation of winemakers in his family. Frédéric studied at the viticultural Lycée in Beaune (Burgundy), while helping his father in the vineyards and cellars in his spare time. He then devoted himself to the Michel Magnien estate in Morey-Saint-Denis working alongside his father from 1987 to 1991. Keen to expand his knowledge, he left to work abroad in 1992, spending 4 months in California on Josh Jensen’s Calera estate and 6 months in Australia with Garry Farr on the Bannockburn Vineyard estate. Returning home in time for the 1993 harvest, he enrolled at the University of Dijon where he obtained his degree in oenology. In September 1995, he made one of the most important decisions of his life; he set up a Maison de Vinification (wine trading house) under his own name: FREDERIC MAGNIEN.
