Owen Roe Ex Umbris Syrah 2014 Washington State Red Wine 750 mL

90 points Vinous Media November 2016

– Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, black raspberry, pepper and mocha on the vibrant nose. Plush, sweet, broad and fruit-driven, conveying noteworthy energy and definition to the flavors of black fruits, spices, licorice and herbs. Not a wild style of Syrah despite a hint of reduction but this very youthful wine has the backbone to gain in nuance and weight in the bottle. Suave tannins coat the front teeth. A great value in Washington Syrah..Stephen Tanzer, November/2016

This wine was introduced as a one-time bottling in 2002 after a wild fire struck the vineyard’s surrounding hillsides. The residual ash and smoke resonated in the Syrah grapes, creating a very memorable wine. Year after year, we are asked to develop a Syrah to keep the story of this wine alive!

“The Ex Umbris Syrah is a great expression of bold fruit flavors. Bursting with aromas of red plum, blueberry and pink peppercorn. The palate is filled with refreshing flavors of fresh summer blackberries, currant, and dark chocolate with noticibly structured acidity and silky tannins.” – Winemaker’s Notes
